Is this website saving my information?

When shopping online, you may sometimes notice that your name, email address, shipping address or payment details are already filled in at checkout; even on a website you are visiting for the first time, such as SecurityBase.

This raises privacy and security concerns, as some people might worry that a website may have collected or stored their personal information without their permission.

When you shop with SecurityBase, we can assure you that is not what is happening.

Pre-filled checkout details usually come from a web browser, a device, a payment provider, or account settings. This can include browser autofill, saved cookies, Shop Pay, PayPal, Apple Pay, Google Pay, or other autofill tools on your device.

At SecurityBase, we do not store customer information for marketing or account purposes unless you choose to provide it, such as by placing an order, contacting us, creating an account, or opting in to receive emails.

So, if your details appear automatically at checkout, it does not mean SecurityBase has collected your information. In most cases, the information is supplied by your device, browser, or payment account to make checkout faster and easier.

Why your details can appear

There are a few common reasons your information may already be filled in at checkout.

1. Browser autofill
Most browsers, including Chrome, Safari, Edge and Firefox, can save details such as your name, email address, phone number and shipping address.

This is designed to make online checkout faster and more convenient. When you visit a checkout page, your browser may recognise the form fields and automatically fill them in.

This information is stored by your browser or device, not by SecurityBase.

2. Local storage and cookies
Websites can use cookies or local storage to remember certain preferences or checkout progress.

For example, your browser may remember that you previously entered an email address or started filling out (or completed) a checkout form. This can happen even if you did not complete an order.

As with the browser autofill tools, this data is stored on your device rather than in our systems.

3. Shop Pay or a Shopify account
Many stores, including SecurityBase, use Shopify to power their online stores.

If you have used Shop Pay or have previously checked out on another Shopify-powered store, Shopify may recognise your email address or device and offer to pre-fill your details.

This is controlled by Shopify and your Shop Pay account settings, not by the webstore you are visiting.

4. PayPal, Apple Pay or Google Pay
If you use PayPal, Apple Pay or Google Pay, those services automatically provide your saved name, address and payment details during checkout.

This is done securely through those payment providers. SecurityBase does not see or store your full payment details.

5. Device or password manager settings
Some phones, computers and password managers also save contact and address information.

For example, iCloud Keychain, Google Password Manager, or other password manager apps may offer to automatically fill in your details.

Again, this information comes from your own device or account settings.

How to remove saved checkout information

If you do not want your details to appear automatically, you can remove them from your browser, device or payment account.

Clear browser autofill
In most browsers, you can manage saved addresses and payment details in the browser settings.

Look for sections such as:
Chrome: Settings → Autofill and passwords
Safari: Settings → AutoFill
Edge: Settings → Profiles → Personal info
Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Forms and Autofill

You can remove saved names, addresses, phone numbers and payment details from there.

Clear cookies and website data
You can also clear cookies and website data for SecurityBase or for all websites.

This may remove saved checkout progress and other website preferences.

On most browsers, this is found under Privacy, Security or Website Data settings.

Check Shop Pay
If your information appears in Shop Pay, you can manage or remove your saved details in your Shop Pay account.

Check PayPal, Apple Pay or Google Pay
If your details are coming from a payment provider, you can update or remove saved addresses and payment methods in that provider’s settings.

  • PayPal: Account settings → Addresses or Payment methods
  • Apple Pay: Wallet & Apple Pay settings
  • Google Pay: Google Payments Centre or Chrome payment settings

Final note

Seeing your details pre-filled at checkout on websites such as SecurityBase does not mean those websites have collected your personal information without your permission.

In most cases, the information is supplied by your browser, device, Shopify account, Shop Pay, PayPal, Apple Pay, or Google Pay.

We respect customer privacy and uses only the information required to process orders, provide support, and communicate with customers who have chosen to hear from us.
